D.4.1.4 StructureDefinition: - Detailed Descriptions

Definitions for the StructureDefinition-au-address Profile.

1. Address
Definition

An Australian address expressed using postal conventions (as opposed to GPS or other location definition formats).

Control0..* This element is affected by the following invariants: ele-1
Comments

Note: address is for postal addresses, not physical locations.

InvariantsDefined on this element
ele-1: All FHIR elements must have a @value or children (: hasValue() | (children().count() > id.count()))
inv-add-0: The address shall at least have text or a line (: address.text.exists() or address.line.exists())
inv-add-1: If asserting no fixed address, the type shall be 'physical' (: address.extension.where(url='http://hl7.org.au/fhir/StructureDefinition/no-fixed-address' and value=true).exists() implies address.type='physical')
inv-add-2: If asserting no fixed address, the address text shall begin with 'NO FIXED ADDRESS' (: address.extension.where(url='http://hl7.org.au/fhir/StructureDefinition/no-fixed-address').exists() implies address.text.startsWith('NO FIXED ADDRESS'))
2. Address.id
Definition

unique id for the element within a resource (for internal references). This may be any string value that does not contain spaces.

Control0..1
Typestring
3. Address.extension
Definition

An Extension

Control0..*
TypeExtension
4. Address.extension:noFixedAddress
Definition

No fixed address indicator.

Control0..1
TypeExtension(NoFixedAddress) (Extension Type: boolean)
5. Address.extension:noFixedAddress.id
Definition

unique id for the element within a resource (for internal references). This may be any string value that does not contain spaces.

Control0..1
Typestring
6. Address.extension:noFixedAddress.extension
Definition

May be used to represent additional information that is not part of the basic definition of the element. In order to make the use of extensions safe and manageable, there is a strict set of governance applied to the definition and use of extensions. Though any implementer is allowed to define an extension, there is a set of requirements that SHALL be met as part of the definition of the extension.

Control0..*
TypeExtension
Alternate Namesextensions, user content
Comments

There can be no stigma associated with the use of extensions by any application, project, or standard - regardless of the institution or jurisdiction that uses or defines the extensions. The use of extensions is what allows the FHIR specification to retain a core level of simplicity for everyone.

7. Address.extension:noFixedAddress.url
Definition

Source of the definition for the extension code - a logical name or a URL.

Control1..1
Typeuri
Comments

The definition may point directly to a computable or human-readable definition of the extensibility codes, or it may be a logical URI as declared in some other specification. The definition SHALL be a URI for the Structure Definition defining the extension.

Fixed Valuehttp://hl7.org.au/fhir/StructureDefinition/no-fixed-address
8. Address.extension:noFixedAddress.valueBoolean
Definition

Value of extension - may be a resource or one of a constrained set of the data types (see Extensibility in the spec for list).

Control1..1
Typeboolean
Fixed Valuetrue
9. Address.use
Definition

The purpose of this address.

Control0..1
BindingThe use of an address
The codes SHALL be taken from AddressUse
Typecode
Is Modifiertrue
Requirements

Allows an appropriate address to be chosen from a list of many.

Comments

This is labeled as "Is Modifier" because applications should not mistake a temporary or old address etc.for a current/permanent one. Applications can assume that an address is current unless it explicitly says that it is temporary or old.

Example
General:home
10. Address.type
Definition

Distinguishes between physical addresses (those you can visit) and mailing addresses (e.g. PO Boxes and care-of addresses). Most addresses are both.
